A Pest is Asbestos

Through a large media campaign, the public is well aware of how dangerous asbestos is. Breathing in asbestos fibers over time is known to cause mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases. Asbestos was commonly used in building materials between the 1930’s and the 1970’s. It was incorporated into ceiling tiles, insulation, and flooring materials because of its immense fire-retardant properties. The EPA estimates that over 30 million tons of asbestos was used between 1900 and 1980. Older commercial buildings may still have asbestos-containing materials within the property if they have never been remodeled or updated. Before starting a commercial remodel project, have one of our contractors at Division 9 Commercial Construction perform an evaluation to determine if you have any asbestos materials on site.

Why is Asbestos in the Workplace Dangerous?

Although asbestos is not dangerous until it is disturbed, asbestos materials do degrade over time. As the materials degrade, they begin to release asbestos fibers into the air. This unknowingly exposes your employees and customers to asbestos fibers in the workplace. Performing renovation projects also can disturb asbestos fibers. Asbestos fibers from the workplace can travel on your clothing, exposing your family members to asbestos, even if they have not been to your workplace.

How Does Division 9 Commercial Construction Perform Asbestos Abatement?

Asbestos is best left to the professionals. We will perform an evaluation of your building, determining when the building was built and if any renovations have been completed. Any questionable asbestos-containing material will be sent to a laboratory for testing if we are not positive that it contains asbestos. Once any asbestos materials have been identified, they must be treated with the utmost care.

Our contractors at Division 9 Commercial Construction are seasoned professionals handling commercial renovations that contain asbestos. We will work with the building owner to ensure that your employees and clients do not risk exposure during the renovation project. There are steps we take to mitigate exposure, including setting up a regulated work area and using special HEPA vacuums. However, every project is handled on a case-by-case basis. We will work with you to find the best solution to fit your needs.
